Week‑1 focus: intros/expectations, then **opposites** and **ordering & comparing numbers**. Diagnostic announced now, taken later.
Assessment Overview
Counts per quarter (coursework, homework minima, quizzes & tests)
Mid‑term & final exam: once per semester. PBL process/product & presentation: once per semester.
Opposites (Additive Inverses)
A number and its opposite are the same distance from 0 on the number line but in opposite directions. They add to zero.
p =–
–p =–
Sum:–
Distance |p|:–
Drag the maroon point; gold point shows the opposite.
Compare Trainer (<, >, =)
Integers and decimals, positive and negative (no fractions yet)
–?–
Streak: 0
The number line highlights both numbers to justify the comparison.
Sort the Numbers (Least → Greatest)
Drag to reorder, then check.
Rational Numbers (Intro)
A rational number can be written as a fraction of integers (denominator ≠ 0). That includes integers (like –3), terminating decimals (0.25), and repeating decimals (0.3̅). We will operate on them later.
Quick Check: Rational or Not?
Score: 0
Why it matters (this unit)
Understand **opposites** and **distance** on the number line
Compare and order numbers accurately
Prepare for **operations with rational numbers** (add/subtract, multiply/divide)
Note: We will do **combined operations (BEDMAS)** later—not in Week 1.

Upcoming: Diagnostic Check
A short, **ungraded** diagnostic will help us understand class starting points and plan review/extension accordingly. Not recorded as a grade; used only to support learning.
